How to Configure Access to Gmail in Sycamore

  1. Login to your Sycamore school site
  2. From the options on the left select Email
  3. From the drop-down menu select Accounts
  4. Select New Account near the top right-hand corner of the window
    1. Fill in the blanks as follows:
      1. Status: Enabled
      2. Primary Account: Checked
      3. Account Name: Your preference – first name last name is a good idea
      4. Email Address: Your email address
      5. IMAP Server
        1. Server: smtp.gmail.com
        2. Port: 993
        3. Security: SSL
      6. SMTP Server
        1. Server: smtp.gmail.com
        2. Port: 465
        3. Security: SSL
      7. Settings
        1. Username: Your email address
        2. Password: Your Google email password
  5. Select Add near the bottom of the window
  6. From the options on the left select Inbox
  7. After a few seconds a view of your Gmail inbox will appear along with any folders you have created

 

**NOTE**

In order for Sycamore to access your Google account a couple configuration changes need to be made in Google:

 

  1. Login to your Gmail account
  2. Select the Gear icon near the upper right-hand corner of the window
  3. From the drop-down menu select Settings
  4. From the options available near the top of the window select Forwarding and POP/IMAP
  5. Make sure the radio button next to Enable IMAP is selected
    1. If it is not selected, click on the radio button
    2. Scroll to the bottom of the window and select Save Changes
  6. In the address bar clear out any website information and enter: myaccount.google.com
  7. Select Sign-in & security
  8. Scroll down the page nearly to the bottom and move the slider to right next to allow less secure apps
